Topics include applications of the definite integral, exponential and logarithmic functions, inverse trigonometric functions, techniques of integration, conic sections, plane curves and polar coordinates, limits involving indeterminate forms, improper integrals, sequences, and infinite series. \\
{\textbf{Prerequisites:}} & MATH 1190 (Calculus I) \\
\textbf{Calculator policy:} & Calculators may be needed for some homework problems. Websites like \href{http://www.wolframalpha.com/}{http://wolframalpha.com} \textit{can} do many problems, but relying on them to solve homework problems will harm your ability to pass exams! Calculators will \textit{not} be permitted for use on any exam. \\
\textbf{Attendance policy:} & Every class meeting should be attended by the student in its entirety, but attendance will not be recorded for a grade. If a class is missed, it is \textit{the student's} responsibility to find out what was missed and to pick up any returned work. \\
\textbf{Homework:} & When homework is assigned, it will be announced in class, posted on the \href{http://tomcuchta.com/teach/classes/2017/MATH-3315-Spring-2017-FairmontState/}{class webpage}, and posted on Moodle. Only the top 10 scores from homework will contribute to the student's final grade. Each homework assignment is worth 10 points. \\
& Homework will consist of book problems and sometimes additional problems that I write independently from the book. I will pick some number of problems in each assignment to grade, but I will not tell you which ones will be graded in advance. I will also provide full solutions to all graded homework. Overall completion may contribute to the grade of an individual homework. Occasionally, in-class homework assignments may be given; such assignments may not be made up. \\
\textbf{Exams:} & There will be four one hour exams in this course each worth 100 points. See the calendar below for exam dates. \\
\textbf{Final exam}: & The final exam will be comprehensive and will be worth 200 points. \\
\textbf{Make-up exam policy:} & If an exam is to be missed due to an excused absence (as defined in the student handbook), then it is the \textit{\textbf{student's responsibility}} to arrange an alternative time to take the exam at least one week before the exam is given. In such a case, the student will complete an equivalent exam at an alternate time \textit{\textbf{before}} the normal exam time. If the student misses an exam due to an unexcused absence, the exam may be replaced with the percentage earned on the final exam. The unexcused absence policy only applies \textit{\textbf{only once}}, so further exams missed due to unexcused absences yield a score of zero. \\
\textbf{Extra credit policy:} & Extra credit opportunities may be available throughout the course and will be announced through the usual channels. Points earned through extra credit will be simply added to the final score earned by homework and exams. \\
